3A WEEK4 THIS IS MY STORY - WRITING ESSAY

TOPIC / THEME: THIS IS MY STORY -ESSAY
OBJECTIVE : Students will be able to:
                      i.        Write a plot expansion in mind map on the book they have read
                     ii.        Plan for essay “this is my story” competition
BEFORE LESSON: 3 students will present their prepared speech to the class

ACTIVITIES :
1.     Return students work on the plot expansion (previous “this is my story”) lesson
2.     Explain to students that they are going to write the story from the notes that they have made – ask students to read the comment made by the teacher in their returned book.
3.     Tell students to write a story starting from the part of the story that they have chosen to write. Length: 250-150 words
4.     Explain that a good narrative must have
  • a.     Introduction
  • b.     The rising action
  • c.     Conflict
  • d.     Resolution
  • e.     Ending
5.     Let students work on the story – they are given 30 minutes to write it.
6.     Walk around the class to help the students especially on intro –help out the students who have problem in building up their story.
7.     Collect the essay at the end of lesson.

TOPIC / THEME: THIS IS MY STORY

OBJECTIVE : Students will be able to:
                      i.        Write a plot expansion in mind map on the book they have read
                     ii.        Plan for essay “this is my story” competition

ACTIVITIES :
      1.     Bring students to Seeds room

2.     Ask students what are the books that they have read in 2014 and which story that they remember the most. Will they change the plot or the ending if they are given the chance.

3.     Explain to the students that they are all candidates for “this is my story” competition and they are given the chance to be a writer and write an expansion of plot for a book of their choice from the SEEDS room. They can also use Malay novel that they have learnt.

4.     Show to students an example of plot expansion – story Cinderella – method: mind mapping

5.     Students must bring the book of their choice or retell the story to the teacher – they must get the teacher to agree with the book/ story that they have chosen

6.     Let students do the mind map the whole period in the exercise book – collect the book at the end of the period.

7.     Conclude the lesson

MATERIALS : novels in SEEDS room

EVALUATION: students ability to understand plot of a story

Example for plot:
CINDERELLA - Time: when the prince was looking for glass-slipper owner
·         Another girl  – fit into it – prince married her
·         Cinderella – heart broken – moved to another country Started business – cleaned houses – company became big – CEO of cleaning business
·         Finally – met a handsome rich man –business partner - married
·         The end
