TOPIC / THEME: SEEDS – READING PROGRAMME

OBJECTIVE : Students will be able to read silently in class any English materials

ACTIVITIES :

1)    Students are brought to SEEDS room.
2)    Teacher asks students to choose a book and read a page from the book. There must be no picture on the page but if students use a book with lots of pictures then they have to read 2-4 pages.
3)    Students are asked to hold out their fist while reading – if they come to a word they don’t understand and they are not able to guest at all, they have to hold up 1 finger. They can only hold up until 5 fingers.
4)    Students do silent reading.
5)    After all of the students have finished reading the page, teacher asks them to check how many fingers they are holding up.
6)    Then teacher explains that this is a method that they can use to choose the RIGHT book for them :
              a.    0-1 finger: too easy

b.    2-3 fingers: just right

c.    4-5 fingers: too hard

7)    Students are encouraged to use this “GIVE ME FIVE” to help them decide. If they choose too easy, they won’t learn new words, and too hard will make them easily bored.
8)    Teacher concludes the lesson of the day.

3A WEEK2 ADJECTIVES PEOPLE

TOPIC / THEME: PEOPLE - ADJECTIVES

OBJECTIVE : Students will be able to:

                      i.        Use at least 8 adjectives to describe appearance and personality
                  ii.        Identify error/s made in the work while checking each other worksheet

ACTIVITIES :

1.     Introduce the idea of a pen friend and ask the students what they would write if they were writing to a pen friend for the first time.
2.     Explain that the students are going to write a letter to a pen friend and that they are going to invent the details.
3.     Divide the class into groups of four and give one copy of the worksheet to each student in the group.
4.     Ask the students to invent a name and an age for the person writing the letter and write it in the space provided.
5.     When they have done that, ask them to fold their piece of paper so that the sentence they have written is hidden, and the next sentence beginning I’ve got... is visible. They should then give it to the student on their left.
6.     Ask the students to invent details to complete the sentence, which is now at the top of the piece of paper they have received. When they have done that, ask them to fold it as before and give it to the student on their left.
7.     Repeat the activity until all the sentences have been completed.
8.     Tell the students to open out the completed letter they have received. This is their new pen friend.
9.     If there are any words or phrases that the students do not understand or think are incorrect, tell them to find the student who wrote them and ask them to explain or correct the word or phrase.
10.  Each group will choose the best letter and show it to the teacher to be marked. Stars will be given to group with the least errors.
11.  Discuss with students what are other words that they can use in their description, example : describing hair – long, short, army cut, curly, bald etc
12.  Conclude the lesson. Each group will paste the work in their exercise book and also copy the letter they have chosen into their book.
